Leonard Mycles “Mike” Day, age 92 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life early Friday morning, February 5, 2021 at the WV Caring’s Hospice Center at Elkins, WV.
He was born Saturday, March 17, 1928 at Glenmore, WV a son of the late Isaac Cecil and Ourtilia May Mallow Day. On November 13, 1962 at Elkins, WV he was married to the former Emma Gail Coffman, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Anita Beth Freeman and husband James Michael of Bridgeport; one brother, David Cecil Day and wife Wilda of Elkins; one sister, Betty May Cook of Louisville, OH; and two grandchildren, Katelyn Hope Freeman, and Michaela Lynn Freeman, both of Bridgeport.
Preceding him in death are four brothers, Earl Trevey Day, Gerald “Whitey” Day, Nevin Isaac Day, and Homer Day; three sisters, Rosetta Violet Pingley, Geraldine Susan Cook, and Gertrude White; three half-brothers, Frank Day, Clyde Day, and Glen Day; three half-sisters, Delphia Humphrey, Zona Franck, and Leerenna Everhart; and one grandson, Anthony James Freeman.
Mike attended the schools of Glenmore, had worked as a lumber stacker for Elkins Lumber Company for forty years, and later worked for Randolph Memorial Company. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, some farming, being outside and loved his grandchildren. He was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church at Elkins.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 7 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 1 PM. The Rev. Terry Cannon will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
