Nora E. Phares, age 93 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Monday morning, January 17, 2011 at Valentines Personal Care Home at Beverly. She was born April 23, 1917 at Evenwood, Randolph County, a daughter of the late Enos and Mary Wyatt Roy. On July 22, 1939 she married Leland Henry Phares who preceded her in death on July 1, 1994. Surviving are one son, Leland H. Phares, Jr., Elkins, one daughter, Patricia Lewis, Albuquerque, NM, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also preceding her in death were four brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Phares attended the schools of Randolph County and Davis and Elkins College. She was employed by the G. C Murphy Company as a Department Head at the time of her retirement. She was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center and was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church for nearly seventy years.
Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 23rd from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2428 Kanawha Blvd., Charleston, WV 25311 in memory of Mrs. Phares. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Nora E. Phares.
