Doris Lee Gribble 1934-2021 Obituary
Doris Lee McElwee Gribble, age 87 years, a native of Randolph County, WV and more recently a resident of Chesapeake, VA went peacefully home to the Lord early Wednesday morning, August 25, 2021 of natural causes at Chesapeake, VA.
She was born Friday, April 27, 1934 at Valley Bend, WV a daughter of the late John Francis and Greta McGee McElwee. She was married to James “Jim” Gribble, who preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons, David Lee Gribble and wife J`en El of Belington, Jeffrey Wayne Gribble and companion Naree Yookong of Virginia Beach, VA; one daughter, Deborah Lynn “Debbie” Lorenzo and husband Raymond of Chesapeake, VA; one brother, Russell McElwee and wife Velma of Beverly; one sister, Janet Sue Iseli and husband Bill of Elkins; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are one brother, Francis Merle McElwee; and one sister, Sylvia Jean Riggleman.
She was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School with the Class of 1952. She had worked as a corporate secretary for Cofer’s Inc., which was an interior design company in Norfolk, VA. She was a Christian, a published poet and an extremely good cook and baker. Doris loved music and was the number one groupie for her son, David’s band. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly.
The family will receive friends at the Hollomon-brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, 6568 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach, VA from 5-8 Tuesday. Mrs. Gribble will then be moved to the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM, Thursday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Friday, September 3, 2021 at 11 AM. Jamie A. Gifford will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Country Club Road, Elkins, WV.
