Marion William “Bill” Bilby 1928-2021 Obituary
Marion William “Bill” Bilby, age 92 years, a resident of Hambleton, WV, departed this life Monday, October 18, 2021, at Cortland Acres at Thomas, WV.
He was born on Sunday, November 18, 1928, in Hambleton, WV, son of the late William Henry Bilby and Esta Virginia Bilby. On April 7, 1951, at Washington, DC, he was married to Retha Louise Kimble, who preceded him in death on June 18, 2019. Surviving are one daughter, Marian Louise Tripp and husband Edward of Huntsville, AL and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were infant daughter, Susan Elaine Bilby; sister Mildred Louise Bilby Eggenberger: brothers, Oran Calvin Bilby and Freeman Guy Bilby.
He served as mayor of Hambleton for almost two decades. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War as a combat medic. After his military service, he returned home to work at Lambert’s Chevrolet in Parsons. He later opened his own auto body repair business known as Bilby’s Body Shop in Hambleton. Starting in 1975, he taught auto body repair at Arch A. Moore, Jr. Career Center until his retirement. His greatest joy while teaching auto body was seeing his graduating students go into the business world with good work habits and marketable skills. He was very proud to see that so many of his students found good jobs as a result of their vocational training. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hambleton. He was also a member of the Pythagoras Lodge #128 and No. 91 Order of the Eastern Star.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral of Parsons on Thursday, October 21 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, at 12:00 PM. Pastor Susie Metzner will officiate, and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV, where the WV. Army Honor Guard, the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military honors.
