Virginia Lee Bush Nelson Burdick 1930-2021 Obituary
Virginia Lee Bush Nelson Burdick, age 91 years, a former resident of Elkins, WV and more recently a resident of Kearneysville, WV where she made her home with her son, Dale departed this life early Thursday morning, December 9, 2021 at her son’s home.
She was born Monday, November 24, 1930 at Charles Town, WV a daughter of the late Howard Opie and Thelma Naomi Clipp Bush. On January 15, 1955 at Alexandria, VA she was married to Walter Earl “Walt” Burdick, who preceded her in death March 23, 2018. They had celebrated sixty-three years of marriage. Surviving are two sons, George Conley Nelson of Kearneysville, Dale Edward Burdick and companion Connie Bailey of Kearneysville; one daughter, Sharon Ann Straley and husband Jim of Kerens; one sister, Sue Ellen McDonald and husband Darrell of Winchester, VA; four grandchildren, Matt and Steve Straley and Amber and Joshua Burdick; and five great grandchildren, Jaxon, Piper, Tristan, Jeffrey and Larissa.
Preceding her in death are three brothers, Alvin C., Robert O., and Howard B. Bush; and one sister, Erica Nell Bush.
She was a graduate of Charles Town High School and was a graduate of the Beauty Academy of Virginia. She was a lifelong beautician and after moving to Elkins she owned and operated her own shop, the Elkins Barberette until her retirement in 1997. She was an active member of the Aerie # 2344, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary serving in many offices and traveling to Eagles functions. She served as WV State President in 2007-2008. She enjoyed doing crafts, gardening and working with her plants and flowers. She loved her dogs and especially her family.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 7 PM, Monday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Tuesday, December 14 , 2021 at 11 AM. Pastor Ann Fretwell will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, WV. Face coverings are suggested while paying respects at the funeral home.
