Irene M. Hicks 1934-2021 Obituary
Irene M. Hicks, age 87 years, a former resident of Elkins, WV and for the past fifteen years has made her home with her husband in Crystal River, Florida passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 in Florida. She was born April 26, 1934 in Mill Creek, WV a daughter of the late Anthony W. and Lina Hammonds Swiger. She was married to Thomas R. Hicks who survives in Crystal River, FL. Also surviving are seven children, Deborah Brafford of Virginia, Jennifer L. Bussey and Tony Lee Hicks of Florida, Joyce Ann Hankins of Florida, Sharon Rae Hatter and Thomas R. Hicks, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA and John W. Hicks of Florida. Also surviving are twenty grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry Jean Aston. Mrs. Hicks had worked as a teacher’s aide for a short time. Her grandchildren were the center of her world. Family meant everything to her. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Mrs. Hicks will be moved to the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville where a graveside service will be held. Rev. Brett Rinehart will officiate and interment will follow. Masks and social distancing is recommended for those attending the service. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Irene M. Hicks.
