Martha Mearns West 1912-2003 Obituary
Martha Mearns West, 91, of 17 Sedgewick St., Buckhannon, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at her home.
She was born March 29, 1912, in Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Calvin Lee Mearns and Ada Casto Mearns.
Surviving are three daughters, Rosalee West of Wampum, Pa., Jean West Ward of Buckhannon and Rebecca W. Kunzelman of Fairmont; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
She graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1932. She was a school teacher and retired from teaching in 1972.
She was a member of the Emeritus Club of West Virginia Wesleyan College and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 11 at Lorentz Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Gary Stackpole will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice at 1 Amalia Drive, Buckhannon, W.Va. 26201 or to Buckhannon Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 495, Buckhannon, W.Va. 26201.
