Marguerite Kisner Peg Widney 1916-2003 Obituary
Marguerite Kisner “Peg” Widney, 86, a former resident of 7 Key St., Elkins, a resident of Good Samaritan for 6 1/2 years, and for the past two weeks, a patient of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, departed this life Friday afternoon, Jan. 31, 2003, at the center. She had been in declining health and her death was attributed to Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born Monday, March 6, 1916, in Durbin, a daughter of the late Lloyd E. Kisner Sr. and Edna Graham Kisner
On Dec. 27, 1941, in Durbin, she was married to Dr. Franklin Jay Widney, who preceded her in death on July 6, 1995.
Surviving are two sons, Franklin Jay Widney II and wife, Doreen, Beverly, and R. Kevin Widney and wife, Leslie, Elkins; one daughter, Marsha Wehr and husband, Donald, Beverly; two brothers, L.E. “Dabney” Kisner Jr., Durbin, and William E. Kisner, Bartow; two sisters, Geraldine Lawton, LaPlatta, Md., and Pauline K. Mams, Elkins; three grandchildren, Robert Lloyd Storch, Jonathan Graham Storch and Kendra Beth Teter; and three great-grandchildren, Abigail Storch, Tyler Jay Storch and Garrett F. Storch.
She was preceded in death by one infant granddaughter, Michelle Lane Widney.
She attended the schools of Durbin, was a graduate of Green Bank High School with the class of 1934, and graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with the class of 1936. She had taught at the one-room schools of Pocahontas County for seven years, and had taught at the Durbin Grade School and served as principal of the school.
She was a 4-H leader for 54 years, and was a leader of the Hi-Fi 4-H Club for many years. She was past president of the 4-H Leaders and a 4-H all-star, and was one of the original founders of the 4-H Dog Obedience School. She was past member of the Elkins Women’s Club, a former Gray Lady of the Davis Memorial Hospital, former member of the Davis Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, former member of the Davis & Elkins College Aid, and had worked with the Meals on Wheels Program. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins, where she was a past president of the United Methodist Women, had served on the board of trustees, and was a member of Circle 6 of the Church. She loved to garden, raise flowers and farm.
Friends will be received at the First United Methodist Church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, with Dr. Ellis E. Conley officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at the Arbovale Cemetery at Arbovale, and interment will follow. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Widney Family County 4-H Camp Scholarship Fund, in care of the West Virginia University Extension Office, 201 Henry Ave., Elkins, W.Va. 26241 or to the First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Ave., Elkins, W.Va., or the 4-H.
