Matthew Garnett Wilbert 1993-2003 Obituary
Matthew Garnett Wilbert, 10, of Yorktown, Va., passed from this life into the glorious hereafter, where he will run and laugh and sing, on Friday, April 4, 2003, at home surrounded by his parents and people who love him, after a 20-month battle with a brain tumor. He was a brave and determined young man who never lost his spirit and drive to go on, even though his body was fighting his cancer.
He was born on March 26, 1993, in Virginia Beach, Va.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his family; parents, Daniel Doyle and Natalie Elaine Wilbert; his brother and best friend, Dillon Doyle Wilbert, who looked up to his brother as a brave and courageous role model; his maternal grandmother, Helen Arbogast of Harman; paternal great-grandmother, Josephine Doyle of North Smithfield, R.I.; paternal grandfather, Jack Wilbert of Ocean, N.J.; maternal aunt and uncle, Deanna and Randy Armentrout of Harman; paternal aunt, Maggie Harris of Dover Plains, N.Y.; paternal uncle, John Wilbert of Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.; along with a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ray Garnett Arbogast; and his paternal grandmother, Ritha Doyle Wilbert
He was an outstanding student in the fourth grade at Grafton Bethel Elementary School and an active Cub Scout in Pack 200. He was baptized and attended Yorkminster Presbyterian Church. Thanks to all his teachers and church family who supported us through this time.
Visitations were held Monday in Armory Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Yorkminster Presbyterian Church today at 4 p.m. with the Revs. Feild and Jenny Russell officiating. Visitation will also be at Job Church of God Thursday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., immediately followed by a graveside service in Flanagan Memorial Cemetery conducted by Pastor Todd Rhodes.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of the Hem/Onc Clinic and the doctors and devoted nurses in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, especially Dr. Paulette Bryant for her devotion to Matthew, and our nurses who cared for Matthew at home. Also, York County EMS; and Edmarc Home Health Care for all their kindness and compassion during this difficult time.
Matthew made an impression on everyone he met and will be sorely missed by all, but will live on forever in our hearts.
