Roger Lee Winans 1948-2003 Obituary
Roger Lee Winans, 54, of Cumberland, Md., passed away Monday, April 7, 2003. He had been in declining health for the past year and death was attributed to cancer.
He was born July 13, 1948, in Elkins,
He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Winans of Elkins.
Surviving are his mother, Mary L. Winans of Elkins; his wife, Bernetta M. Winans of Cumberland, Md.; two daughters, Katrina Wysong and husband, Cory, of Tampa, Fla., and Renata Winans; and a special friend, Juan Perez of Tampa, Fla.; one son, Travis Winans of Cumberland, Md.; and two grandchildren, Leighton Winans and Dezianna Winans of Cumberland, Md.
Also surviving are three brothers, Edward “P-Nut” Winans of Elkins, Richard Winans of Elkins, and Robert B. Winans and wife, Tonya, of Elkins; four nephews, Chad E. Winans and wife, Jennifer, of Elkins, Justin Winans of North Carolina, and Dylan and Erik Winans of Elkins; and one great-nephew, Isaac E. Winans of Elkins.
Mr. Winans graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1966. After high school, he joined the Army for four years and served in the Korean Conflict.
He was also an employee of the CSX Railroad, where he worked as conductor for 30 years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a Pittsburgh Steeler fan.
He devoted the past 2 1/2 years of his life with Chaplain Rider serving the Lord and leading others to him. He was a Baptist by faith.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel Friday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel at 3:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion will conduct full military services at the gravesite. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Roger Lee Winans.
