Alfred R. Wood 1921-2003 Obituary
Alfred R. Wood, 81, a former resident of Mingo and a patient in Rosewood Nursing Home in Grafton, passed away Friday, April 18, 2003, in the Grafton City Hospital.
He was born Dec. 29, 1921, at Norton, the son of the late Norval and Viva Kisamore Wood.
He had never married. Surviving are two brothers, Clarence Wood and wife, Della, of Mingo, and Clark “Kelly” Wood and wife, Helen, of Akron, Ohio; and two sisters, Virginia Conrad and husband, Keith, of Lake Charles, La., and Bertha Allman and husband, Maurice, of Philippi.
A sister-in-law, Addie Canfield Wood of Three Churches and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Also preceding him in death were one brother, Hubert Wood, and an infant sister, Mamie Mae Wood.
Mr. Wood attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School.
He was employed as a bookkeeper for Southern States Cooperative for 38 years prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Mingo Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, and was a former member of the Lions Club.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mingo Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Rice officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mingo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mingo Presbyterian Church, Mingo, W.Va., or to the Mingo Cemetery Association, Route 1, Box 38, Huttonsville, W.Va., 26273, in memory of Mr. Wood.
