Elda June Proudfoot Yeager 1926-2003 Obituary
Elda June Proudfoot Yeager, 77, a resident of old Route 250 in Belington, departed this life Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at her home. She had been in her usual health and death was unexpected.
She was born July 12, 1926, in the Talbott community near Belington, the daughter of the late Ervin S. and Sylvia Foy Proudfoot.
On Oct. 2, 1948, at Oakland, Md., she was united in marriage to Graydon L. Yeager, who preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1987.
She is survived by four sons, David Yeager and wife, Cheryl, of Kentucky, Marvin Yeager and wife, Vivian, of Belington, Robert Yeager and wife, Debbie, of Belington, and Roger Yeager and wife, Terry, of Virginia; two daughters, Barbara Canfield and husband, Don, of Virginia, and Susan Silcox and husband, David, of Virginia; 10 grandchildren, William Yeager and wife, Darcy, Matt, Jared and Justin Canfield, Adam Silcox, Sarah Silcox Sanders and husband, Charles, Josh, Daniel, Aaron and Courtney Yeager.
Also surviving are five stepgrandchildren, Angela Moore and husband, Terry, Jerry Silcox and wife, Trina, Michael Wildman and wife, Brandy, Rion and Alec Moore; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers, Herman Proudfoot of Belington, Neil Proudfoot of Belington and Noel Proudfoot of North Carolina; two sisters, Zelma Yeager of Elkins and Mary Belle Simmons of Washington.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Warren H. Proudfoot.
Mrs. Yeager was a 1943 graduate of Belington High School and a graduate of the West Virginia Business College.
She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Belington where she was a choir member. She was a past secretary of the United Methodist Women, a member of Heart and Hand Ministries and served on the flower committee of the Barbour County Fair. She also served on the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was active on the 1943 Class Reunion Committee.
She was greatly known for her homemade applesauce that she made weekly for the Kiwanis Club and church. She loved cooking, collecting glassware, feeding birds and traveling. Most importantly, she will be remembered for being called “the bragging grandma.”
Friends were received at the Talbott Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Today at 9:30 a.m., she will be moved to the Asbury United Methodist Church, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted from the church. The Rev. Arden Beck and the Rev. Rose “Jo” McCartney will officiate and interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery at Belington. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Asbury Church Kitchen Fund, 512 Beverly Pike, Belington, W.Va., 26250. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Elda June Proudfoot Yeager.
