Claude D. White 1926-2003 Obituary
Claude DeWitt White, 76, a resident of Bemis and Milford, Mich., since September 2002, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at the home of his daughter in Michigan, following an extended illness.
He was born July 1, 1926, at Glady, a son of the late Abraham Tallman and Grace Lena Barkley White.
He was married to Beverly Gagnon Driscoll on Feb. 26, 1966, who preceded him in death in August 1990.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Karen) Vance, Jimtown, Sharon Brake, New Jersey, and Mrs. Thomas (Dee) Letvin of Milford, Mich.; one stepson, Chrissie Driscoll of Jimtown; a brother, Ronald White, Bemis; and three sisters, Pearl Curkendall, Philippi, Pauline Shillingberg, Morgantown, and Mildred “Leafy” Bohon, Elkins. Five grandchildren, Abbie and Samantha Letvin, Travers, Brian and Andrew Brake; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Matthew Brake also survive.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Woodrow “Woody” White and William “Bill” White.
Mr. White attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed as a paper maker for Scott Paper Co. in Detroit, Mich., for 29 years. In 1978, he moved to Bemis and worked for Badger Coal’s No. 9 Mine in Buckhannon. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Belgium, France and Germany. He was a member of the Bemis Community Church and American Legion Post 216 of Milford, Mich.
