Carrol A. Bailey 1917-2003 Obituary
Carrol A. Rowan Bailey, 86, a resident of 158 Randolph St., Buckhannon, died at 11:35 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at her home.
She was born March 3, 1917, in Upshur County, the daughter of the late Arthur Morgan Rowan and Susan Elizabeth Friel Rowan.
On May 28, 1933, she was married to Virgil Jennings Bailey, who preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1981.
Surviving are five sons, Dennis Ervin Bailey, Peachland, N.C., James Elmer Bailey, Newton Falls, Ohio, and Mayford Lynn Bailey, Gary Dwayne Bailey and Meredith Glen Bailey, all of Buckhannon; seven daughters, Anna Bennett, Marie Bonner, Alice Devericks and Rita Barnett, all of Buckhannon, Frances Peters, Gassaway, Marie England, French Creek, and Thelma Dietrich, Rock Cave; two brothers, Dariel Rowan, Meadville, Pa., and Delmar Rowan, Cowen; four sisters, Verna Cunningham, Somerset, Ohio, Wilma Tenney, Meadville, Pa., Thelma Salsbury, Conneaut, Ohio, and Edna Burford, Clarion, Pa.; a grandson whom she raised, Randall Dwayne Bailey, Buckhannon; 54 grandchildren; 89 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Arthur Lee Bailey and an infant son; two daughters, Wilda Richards and an infant daughter; two brothers, Otis Rowan and Chester Rowan; one sister, Marguerite Holden; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker and a member of South Buckhannon Mission Church.
She loved poetry and had nine books of poetry published.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Ed Lowther will officiate and interment will follow in the Bailey Cemetery in Buckhannon.
