Irene T. Bassel 1921-2003 Obituary
Irene T. Bassel, 81, a resident of 517 Buckhannon Manor, Buckhannon, and a former resident of Mansfield Addition, Philippi, passed away at 11:35 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at her residence.
She was born March 17, 1921, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Dellet A. and Helen (Simon) Lanham.
She was united in marriage in November 1945 to Jown W. Bassel, who preceded her in death in 1978.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Jonnene Kay and husband, Dean Goglin, Huntsville, Ala.; one son, Dana Lee and wife, Colleen Bassel, Kenai, Alaska; four grandchildren, Phillip L. Goglin, Stephanie L. Goglin, Jamie L. Roberts and Aimee I. Bassel; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Conner Roberts.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia McWhorter.
She was a retired clerk in a North Carolina assessor’s office. She was a 1939 graduate of Philippi High School. She attended Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Charles Godwin officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
