Hazel H. Bennett 1911-2003 Obituary
Hazel Hull Bennett, 92, a well-known educator of Tucker County and a resident of Parsons, departed this life late Monday evening, May 12, 2003, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. She had been in declining health for the past week.
She was born Feb. 15, 1911, in Huntington, the daughter of the late C. Forrest Hull and Laura Hull.
Also surviving are two sons, Brian Lee Bennett and wife, Belinda, of Washington, and Herbert Brent “Squeek” Bennett and wife, Sharon, Parsons; four grandchildren, Brooke Cress, Leesburg, Va., Tamara Bennett, Midway, Ga., Becky Bennett, Morgantown, and Brianna Bennett, Washington; and one sister-in-law, Edna Hull, Harrisville.
Mrs. Bennett was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by two brothers, Hudson Hull and Luther Whitman Hull; and two sisters, Hope Mallow and Louise Gochenour.
Mrs. Bennett was a graduate of Durbin High School with the class of 1928. She was a graduate of Shepherd State Teachers College in May 1943. She attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and West Virginia University. Having earned a degree in home economics and social studies, she was a former home management supervisor for the Farm Security Administration for Tucker County. She was an educator for 35 years, having taught at Durbin, Circleville and Parsons High School and retired in 1973. Mrs. Bennett continued to substitute teach for many years in Tucker County.
The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Thursday morning, Mrs. Bennett will be moved to the First United Methodist Church, where final rites will be conducted at 10 a.m. The Rev. David Fuller will officiate and interment will follow at Parsons City Cemetery in Parsons. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Hazel Hull Bennett.
