Leota R. Bertolini 1922-2003 Obituary
Leota Ruth “Duddy” Flanagan Bertolini joined her heavenly father in the land of comfort and peace on Saturday night, May 24, 2003, after a long illness.
She was born in Coalton on Oct. 16, 1922, the daughter of Ruth Ellen Gallaher and William Robert Flanagan.
On June 7, 1946, she was married to Roger Bertolini, who survives in Elkins. They would have soon celebrated 57 years of marriage.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers, Freda Phillips, Orra Letha Rhuberry, Bessie Kelly, Geraldine Woods, Snowden Flanagan and Frank Flanagan.
One sister, Grace Cook; a brother, Ralph Flanagan; and a brother-in-law, Leo Bertolini and wife, Dorothy, survive.
Also surviving are nieces and nephews Donna Cook; Chris Woods; Richard “Cappy” Kelly; Mike, Patsy and Jamie Flanagan; Thomas Flanagan; Barbara Lawrence and husband, Clark; Corina Belan and husband, John; and Joann Yeager. She also leaves behind several great-nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Coalton High School in 1940 and went to work in Baltimore, Md., in the shopping department of Sears, Roebuck and Co. She returned to Elkins in 1942 where she was employed by the A&P Tea Co. for 37 1/2 years. She worked as bookkeeper, head cashier and assistant manager until her retirement in 1985.
She willingly gave herself to the community and was involved in Cancer Care Corps, Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Davis & Elkins College Aid and GFWC Woman’s Club of Elkins. A longstanding member of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, she belonged to the Lacy Bible Class, Women of the Church and Circle One, where she worked tirelessly, even when she was unable to attend regularly.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. At her request, her body has been donated to the West Virginia University Medical School Human Gift Registry.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church Circle One.
