Junior L. Buchanan 1924-2003 Obituary
Junior Lee Buchanan, 79, a resident of 106 Conaway Drive, Elkins, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 28, 2003, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Huttonsville, the son of the late Woodford D. and Carrie Gear Buchanan.
He was married to the former Grace Evans, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving is one son, David Buchanan and wife, Karen, of Bremerton, Wash.; one sister, Mary Hill and husband, Cecil, of Elkins; one granddaughter, Heather; two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death was a brother, Maxwell D. Buchanan.
Mr. Buchanan was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School and the University of Louisville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.
He formerly lived in Akron, Ohio, and retired as a field office manager for the West Virginia Department of Highways.
He was a member of Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and was a life member of the Lions Club of Akron, Ohio.
He was a member of Valley Bend United Methodist Church.
He loved music and fishing, and enjoyed playing the guitar.
Friends may call from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Larry Poling officiating.
Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Bend United Methodist Church, Valley Bend, W.Va. 26293, in memory of Mr. Buchanan. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Junior Lee Buchanan.
