Cecil D. Cogar, 76, a resident of Replete Road in Hacker Valley, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Webster continuous Care in Buckhannon following an extended illness.

He was born Sept. 3, 1927, in Braxton County, the son of the late Delbert and Bessie Cowger Cogar.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Alta Belle Cogar of Hacker Valley; one foster daughter, Linda Lowther and husband, Max , of Hacker Valley; two sisters, Ruth Hubbard of Hacker Valley and Hettie Sears of Rock Cave; and three nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jacob Lee Cogar.

He attended the Pleasant Ridge School and the Webster Springs High School.

Mr. Cogar also attended Glenville State College and graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with an AB degree.

He was also an Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict.

He was employed by the Webster County Board of Education and taught at Greenbrier Ridge, Removal, Jumbo, Cowger Hill, Cleveland, Guardian and Diana, all in Webster County, and also served as the attendance director of Webster county schools.

He was a lifetime member of the West Virginia Association of Retired School Employees and was a charter member and past Nobel Grand of the Odd Fellows No. 364 and the Rebekah Lodge No. 91 of Hacker Valley.

He was a member of the Hacker Valley United Methodist Church, where he also was a former Sunday School teacher and song leader.

His hobbies included reading, listening to gospel music, beekeeping and gardening.

Friends were received at the Dodd & Reed Funeral Home on Sunday.

The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs also held a service Sunday at the funeral home.

Services were conducted at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Don Dugas of Selbyville officiating.

Burial followed in the Heavener Cemetery in Buckhannon.

Military rites were performed at the cemetery by the VFW Post 3738 of Webster Springs.
