Garvey Gilmore 1929-2001 Obituary
Garvey B. Gilmore, 72, of Elkins, died July 31, at Ruby Memorial Hospital Morgantown. He has been in his usual health, and his death was attributed to cardiac arrest.
He was born on March 31, 1929, at Parsons, a son of the late Marvin Eugene Gilmore and Maxine Elizabeth Copeland Gilmore Nestor. He was twice married; first to Jean Parsons Gilmore who died in 1994. On Oct. 14, 1989, at Parsons he was married to Wilma Raese Gilmore who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are three sons, Jeffrey G. Gilmore, Germany, Joseph B. Gilmore, Hurricane and John E. Gilmore, Knightdale, NC; a daughter, Juliann L. Gilmore, Elkins; a brother, Reginald E. “Reggie” Gilmore, Fairlea, and seven grandchildren.
One sister, Mary Anna Gilmore Ketterman, preceded him in death.
Mr. Gilmore was a 1947 graduate of the Parsons High School and attended Potomac State College. He then entered the US Army serving during the Korean War with the 82nd Airborne Division after which he attended West Virginia University where he received his masters degree in guidance and counseling. He worked with the WV Department of Highways retiring as district equipment manager.
He was a member of Randolph Lodge 55 AF and AM, the Osiris Shrine AAONMS of Wheeling, the Tygarts Valley Shrine Club, H.W. Daniel’s Post 29, American Legion, and the Elkins Moose Lodge 375.
Friends were received at the Barb-Greenlief Funeral Home where final rites were conducted Aug. 3. Pastor Mike House officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
