Daniel A. Thomas 1936-2003 Obituary
Daniel Arthur Thomas, 66, of Aurora, died suddenly Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003.
He was born Dec. 23, 1936, in Cumberland, Md., the son of the late George Ernest Thomas Sr. and Juanita Virginia Thomas of Cumberland, Md.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley F. Starr Thomas of Aurora; two nephews, George Rose and wife, Donna, and sons, Danny and Steve, of Cumberland, Md., and Scott Rose of Paw Paw; three stepsons, William Jamison of Grafton, Ohio, John Jamison and wife, Paula, of Akron, Ohio, and Larry Harvey and wife, Valerie, of Terra Alta; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Butch Thomas and wife, Margie, and George Thomas and wife, Penny, of Cumberland, Md.; two sisters, Pattie McDonald and husband, Gary, of Ridgely, and Janet Sheetz and husband, Steve, of Cumberland, Md.; one half sister, Katherine Messich and husband, Jim, of Cumberland, Md.; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Gwendolyn Virginia Thomas; and his father-in-law, Herb Starr.
Mr. Thomas worked for Sell and Co. in Cumberland for 21 years. At the time of his death, he was employed by A.D. Naylors of Oakland, Md., as a shipping and receiving clerk in hardware.
He was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, was a member of the Stemple Ridge United Methodist Church, was a life member of the Sportsman Club of Cumberland, and was a firefighter for 10 years with District 16 in Cumberland.
Mr. Thomas was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army for nine years.
Friends were received Thursday at the Stemple Ridge United Methodist Church in Aurora. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Scarpelli Funeral Home in Cumberland, Md., and at the Stemple Ridge United Methodist Church in Aurora on Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon, the funeral hour. The Rev. Michael Ludle will officiate and interment will follow in the Davis Memorial Cemetery at Cumberland, Md. Hinkle Funeral Home of Davis is in charge of the arrangements. From 19 Sep 2003.
