Connie Vance 1912-2003 Obituary
Connie June White Smith Vance, 91, a resident of the Smith Mountain Farm near Job, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Oct. 1, 2003, at her home. She had been in declining health for the past two years.
She was born Sunday, June 2, 1912, at Job, the daughter of the late Edward White and Della Z. White
On Sept. 16, 1961, at Red House, Md., she was married to Bruce Vance, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Christopher Ray Vance, at home; one daughter, Geraldine Cottrell of Wymer; one brother, Richard White of Files Creek Road, Beverly; three sisters, Margaret Putzulu of Elkins, Georgia Menis of Beverly, Emma Ruth Zickefoose of Conway, Pa; five grandchildren whom she helped to raise, Connie Cottrell of Job, Mike Butcher of Elkins, Terry Butcher of Job, Susie Lambert of Bemis, and Kenneth Butcher of Job; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her parents were one son, Donald Smith; one daughter, Leona Smith; one brother, Ralph White; and three sisters, Annabell Butcher, Irna Bridges and Hazel White.
Connie attended the schools at Job, was a homemaker and farmer, was a Protestant by faith and loved life, animals and children. She never met a stranger.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m, Friday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Smith Mountain Farm Cemetery near Job.
