Simon L. Wamsley 1917-2003 Obituary
Simon L. Wamsley, 85, of 153 Hickory Flat Road, Buckhannon, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born April 5, 1917, in Queens, a son of the late Albert Wamsley and Lelah Hoover Wamsley.
On Dec. 16, 1939, he married Stella Mae Koon Wamsley, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Larry Wamsley and wife, Corrine, the Rev. Marvin Wamsley and wife, Connie, and Chet Wamsley and wife, Kay, all of Buckhannon; one daughter, Yvonnda Tenney and husband, Charles, Buckhannon; two sisters, Ruth Taylor and Mescal Pugh, both of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Lesa Tenney, New York City, N.Y., and DeAnn Vestal, Ashboro, N.C.; and three grandsons, David Wamsley, Tyler Wamsley and Ryan Wamsley, all of Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Doyle Wamsley and Marrie Wamsley; and one granddaughter, Nola Ann Wamsley.
Mr. Wamsley was a coal miner at Pecks Run Coal Co. He was a member of the NRA and attended Tennerton United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Marvin Wamsley officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gideons Memorial Bible Fund, PO Box 505, Buckhannon, W.Va. 26201.
