Willard C. Ward 1917-2003 Obituary
Willard “Bill” Clarence Ward, 86, a resident of Chester, Va., departed this life Sunday, July 27, 2003, at his residence.
He was born March 17, 1917, at Elkins, a son of the late Ray Ward and Harriet Carole (Hattie) Triplett.
His paternal grandparents were Job Ward and Catherine Chenoweth and his maternal grandparents were Randolph Triplett and Sarah Kittle.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Virginia “Dolly” Nussey on May 17, 1998. They were married on July 16, 1945.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and husband, Gary Helton, Chester, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Ray and wife, Jane Ward, Chester, Va.; one sister, Mary Louise Enlow, Baltimore, Md.; one brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence “Larry” and Donna Ward, Springfield, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Waldo (Margaret) Ward of Elkins, and Mrs. Austin (Lucille) Ward of Elkins; and six grandchildren, Kevin, Karen and Steven Helton, and Matthew, Sarah and Rebecca Ward.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Freda White, Dorotha “Dot” Toadvine Polovina, Ada and infant Margaret Ward; and three brothers, Waldo, Austin and Lanier.
He attended the schools of Randolph County. He was in World War II in Africa with the U.S. Air Service Mapping and Charting Division. He was a graduate of the University of Hard Knocks at Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, a cartographer with U.S. Government and Project Engineer with FAA.
He was a Baptist by faith.
Friends were received at J.T. Morris & Son Funeral Home, 3050 West Hundred Road, Chester, Va. Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
