Catherine Chewning 1923-2003 Obituary
Catherine Louise George Chewning, 79, a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center and formerly of Dailey, departed this life 2:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.
She had been in declining health for quite sometime but her health became worse in the past year.
She was born Oct. 29, 1923, in Kittanning, Pa., the daughter of the late Robert Russell and Catherine Chestnut George.
In 1946 she was united in marriage to Leslie Lee Chewning, who preceded her in death on April 4, 1971.
She is survived by three sons, Russell Lee Chewning of Moatsville, Robert Lynn Chewning of Belington and Carl George Chewning of Elkins; two daughters, Roselyn Chewning Russell of Newmarketsville, Va., and Cathy Elaine Chewning Campbell of Ocala Fla.; one sister, Loretta Wedkin of Pennsylvania; and two brothers, Kenneth George of Pennsylvania, and Carl George of Ohio.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Grace George, who raised her.
Mrs. Chewning attended the Kittanning area schools in Pennsylvania, and in her earlier years was employed by Owens Illinois Glass Factory and Akron Aircraft.
She was a homemaker and was a Methodist by faith
Friends were received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and today until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, when services were conducted from the funeral home parlor.
The Rev. Carus Campbell officiated and interment followed in the Elkins Memorial Gardens in Elkins.
