Edna M. Wegman 1927-2003 Obituary
Edna Mae Wegman, 76, a resident of Dailey where she had made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, John and Cathy Wegman, passed away at 8:38 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at her residence. She had been in failing health for the past two months.
Born June 8, 1927, in Elkins, she was the daughter of the late John Elmer and Helena Ethel Booth Simmons.
Edna was twice married. Her first husband, George Henry Williams, preceded her in death. In 1955, she was united in marriage to John Robert Wegman, who preceded her in death on July 7, 1987.
Surviving are three daughters, Jeanette Elizabeth Wise and husband, Bill, of Carmichaels, Pa., Barbara A. Williamson and husband, Robert, of Dilliner, Pa., and Deborah Kay Lewis of Waynesburg, Pa.; two sons, John Robert Wegman Jr. and wife, Cathy, of Dailey and Dennis Lynn Wegman and wife, Trudy, of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Nancy Jean McCullough of Plant City, Fla.; and one brother, John Elmer Simmons Jr. of Beverly.
Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were one daughter, Helena Williams Rowe; three brothers, Jim Simmons, Gary Simmons and Bill Simmons; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Wright and Drew Wright.
Edna was a homemaker and served fountain drinks and sandwiches at the old Neale’s Drug Store. She also was a switchboard operator during World War II for Bell Atlantic Telephone Co.
Edna loved to tap dance, was very interested in the history of World War II and made many scrapbooks. She loved cooking and especially making from scratch all kinds of pastries, cakes and homemade bread. She loved to garden and can. She loved the theater and spent a lot of time with her children there.
Mrs. Wegman was a Protestant by faith and also believed in the Sacred Name Religion.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel today after 7 p.m. and on Saturday after 3 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the F.E. Runner Funeral Home on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Don Jacko will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Edna Mae Wegman.
