Ray M. “Bud” Cost Sr., 86, a former resident of Livingston Avenue, Elkins, and a patient of Talbott Personal Care Home in Belington, passed away Saturday morning, June 7, 2003, at the personal care home.

He was born Aug. 17, 1916, at Keyser, a son of the late Ray Milburn Cost and Jeretta Pearl Jenkins Cost.

On Jan. 22, 1946, he was married to Hazel Viola “Peg” Hinzman, who preceded him in death on Sept. 12, 1981.

Surviving are two sons, Ray M. Cost Jr. of Belington and Jason M. Cost and wife, Jane, of Grafton; one daughter, Beverly Fortney and husband, Ralph, of Beverly; one brother, James “Jim” Cost of Elkins; six grandchildren, Marlene Sue McCauley, Jill P. Parson, Shari Buterbaugh, Jonathan R. Cost, Joel M. Cost, Jared M. Cost; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Fay A. Cost, and two sisters, Louise Hughes and Geraldine Daniels.

Mr. Cost was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He participated in the Battle of Normandy and was awarded both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He was retired from the West Virginia Division of Weights and Measures.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

On Tuesday morning, Mr. Cost will be moved to the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery where graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Chaplain Jim Fawcett will officiate.

Members of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post No. 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Elkins will accord full military rites at the grave.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Randolph County Humane Society, PO Box 785, Elkins, W.Va. 26241.

The Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Ray M. “Bud” Cost Sr.
