Dora N. Cross 1906-2003 Obituary
Dora Nestor Cross, 96, a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas, departed this life early Saturday morning, April 26, 2003, at the nursing home.
She was born Aug. 26, 1906, at St. George, a daughter of the late Samson Fansler Nestor and Etta Mae Fitzwater Nestor.
On Oct. 21, 1923, at St. George, she was married to Luther Levi Cross, who preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1953.
Surviving are three sons, Junior Ray Cross, Akron, Ohio, Willard Eugene “Pete” Cross and wife, Juliette, Midland, Va., and Charles Windel Cross and wife, Iris, Waldorf, Md.; six daughters, Delores Dorine Tilton, Piqua, Ohio, Wanda Catherine Whitehair, Akron, Ohio, Judith Ann Cattrell, Doyles Town, Ohio, Grace Elizabeth Polhemus, Grand Junction, Colo., Karen Sue Barner and husband, Roger, Great Falls, Va., and Lillian Lorraine Markley, Meadowbrook; 21 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one daughter, Vida Mae Thomasson; six brothers, Porter, Floyd, Staley, Dennis, Artie and Marvin Nestor; five sisters, Edna, Lena Grace, Ethel, Flora and Evelyn; and one great-grandson, Roy Polhemus.
She attended the one-room school at St. George. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hendricks. She was a homemaker and devoted mother.
The family will receive friends at the Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home today from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Eugene Nestor and the Rev. Carol Nestor will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery in Parsons. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Cortland Acres Nursing Home, HC 60 Box 98, Thomas, W.Va. 26292. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Dora Nestor Cross.
