Stanley Croston Sr. 1920-2003 Obituary
Mr. Stanley D. Croston Sr., 85, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.
He was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Elkins, a son of the late Birdett and Olie Mae King Croston.
On July 3, 1952, at Oakland, Md., he was married to Juanita Bonnell Croston, who survives at Mill Creek.
Also surviving are a son, Stanley D. Croston Jr. and wife, Toni; a grandson, Stanley D. Croston III and wife, Kyndra; two great-grandchildren, Ryan M. Croston and Matthew K. Croston; and one brother, Leonard Croston.
Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Shirley, Alvie and John Croston; and two sisters, Blanch Quick and Kay Polito.
Mr. Croston attended the schools of Randolph County and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II on a medical transport ship in the Pacific. He was employed as a miner for Bethlehem Steel for 20 years. He was a bus driver for the Randolph County Board of Education and owned and operated the Mill Creek Barber Shop.
Mr. Croston served at one time as vice chairman of the Mill Creek Emergency Squad and served as scout master with the Boy Scouts for 15 years. He was a member of the Mill Creek United Methodist Church and served in various church offices.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Frank Long officiating. Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Stanley D. Croston Sr.
