On Jan. 14, 1950, he was married to Catherine Lopez Cuppari, who survives in Buckhannon. They were married 53 years.

Surviving are one daughter, Patti Jo Stout and husband, Larry, Florida; one son, James Cuppari and wife, Pam, Buckhannon; three sisters, Josephine Harris, Warren, Mich., Antonette “Butch” Yervasi, Detroit, Mich., and Rose Serotore, Philadelphia, Pa.; two granddaughters, Petia Modarelli and husband, Mark, Florida, and Catherine Hoeveler and husband, Christopher, Ocean City, N.J.; one grandson, Joseph Paul Cuppari II, Buckhannon; one great-granddaughter, Alanna Hoeveler, Ocean City, N.J.; several nieces and nephews; two special nieces, Jeanie Latz, Clarksburg, and Roseanne Mitchel, Coraopolis, Pa.; and two special friends, Willie Scott, Buckhannon, and Roger Dean, Buckhannon.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Connie Scrips; four brothers, Anthony Cuppari, Angelo Cuppari, Frank Cuppari and Carmen Cuppari; and four infant brothers and sisters.

Mr. Cuppari was a businessman and owner of Superior Auto Sales. He was a Catholic by faith.

He was awarded a diploma from the University of Hard Knocks at Alderson-Broaddus College. He was the founder of J&C Wholesale and Amusement Inc., Superior Auto Sales, Cuppari Rentals and many other enterprises.

He loved his family and wife, whom he gave wholeheartedly to as well as others.

Many people knew him as “Uncle Joe” because he helped people to purchase cars they might not have had by letting them owe him.

Because of his generosity, many families had a good Christmas.

No one in need was ever turned away from his door. Also several people are in business in the Buckhannon area because of his help.

The most wonderful husband, father, grandfather and most recently great-grandfather, was the “glue” to his family. They all loved and respected him and they will forever.

His wife, Catherine, wants to express thanks to their son, Jimmy, who opened his home and heart for the last seven months of his life.

To the daughter-in-law, Pam, who got up many nights to help take care of him, whom he loved like a daughter.

To Catherine, her lovely granddaughter, who made many trips from New Jersey to be with her grandfather. To her husband, Christopher, who was very understanding and loving through all of it.

Special thanks to Willie, who helped the family take care of him and Roger, who was always there. To Stan Yost, his lawyer, who talked me through a lot of tears and whom Joe loved and respected. Also a special thank-you to the Rev. Jack Bohman and wife, Cindy, for praying for Joe and us during our sorrows and standing by us all.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday.

The Rev. M. Jack Bohman will officiate and interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Clarksburg.
