Betty Currence 1926-2003 Obituary
Betty Jean Osborne Currence, 76, a resident of Mill Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, Feb. 7, 2003, at her home.
She had been in declining health.
She was born Sunday, Feb. 28, 1926, at Norton, the daughter of the late Glen W. Osborne and Ida Mae Knarr Osborne.
During September 1943, she was married to Hileray C. “Boone” Currence Jr., who preceded her in death on May 29, 2001.
Surviving are two daughters, Beverly Hammonds and husband, Bill, Mill Creek, and Patty Corley Tryon and husband, Rich, Fairmont; one son, Jack Currence and wife, Shirley, Mill Creek; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was one sister, Helen Louise Gooden.
Mrs. Currence attended the schools of Randolph County and had worked for several years for the W.T. Grant Co.
She also worked as a teacher’s aide and later as a cook for Randolph County Schools.
She was a member of the Mill Creek United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s Circle.
Friends will be received at the Mill Creek United Methodist Church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Final rites will be conducted at the church at 2 p.m. Monday.
The Rev. Verl Simmons and the Rev. Todd Corley will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville.
