Mary H. Daniels 1905-2003 Obituary
Mary Hinzman Wamsley Daniels, 97, a former resident of Valley Bend, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.
She was born Nov. 14, 1905, at Dailey, a daughter of the late George Edward and Margaret Chewning Hinzman.
On Oct. 25, 1932, she was married to Thomas Andrew Wamsley, who preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1951. On Dec. 19, 1953, she was married to Gordon C. Daniels, who preceded her in death on May 22, 1988.
She is survived by one son, Andy Wamsley and wife, Janice, with whom she lived for the past 15 years; a stepdaughter, Dortha of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; one brother, the Rev. Parker Hinzman, Winchester, Va.; one sister, Opal Rhea of Beverly; four grandchildren, Tom Wamsley and wife, Jane, Cheri Shiflett and husband, Garry, Steve Wamsley and wife, Lisa, and Marc Wamsley and wife, Amie; four stepgrandchildren, Ellen Gum, Polly Gum, Helen Kennedy and husband, Wayne, and Alonzo Snelson; and eight great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were six brothers, Joe, Dick, Bill, Glenn, Paul and Ray Hinzman; one sister, Peg Cost; and three stepgrandchildren.
Mrs. Daniels was the last surviving member of the first graduating class of Tygarts Valley High School in 1924. She began teaching at the one room Steiner School at Dailey.
She went on to teach for 33 years at Shavers Run, Bradley, Oak Grove, Mingo, Elliots Ridge and Homestead schools.
She was a 1950 graduate of Davis & Elkins College and for 18 years served on the Randolph County Democratic Executive Committee.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley officiating.
Interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens.
