Louise Thomas DiBacco, 85, a resident of 5 Goff St., Elkins, departed this life early Monday morning, April 21, 2003, at her home, following an illness.

She was born July 25, 1917, at Thomas, a daughter of the late Lucian Dillon “L.D.” Thomas and Frances LaRue Thomas.

She was twice married, formerly to Eugene Michael Ward, who preceded her in death.

In 1951, she was married to Lebert Carmine DiBacco, who preceded her in death in 1975.

She was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother whose family was her joy.

Surviving are three daughters, Constance Jean Ward Ongemach, Spartansburg, S.C., Mary Ellen Ward Kennerdell, Dallas, Texas, and Nancy Louise Ward Holmes and husband, Robert “Bob” Holmes, Amelia Island, Fla.; one brother, Kenneth L. Thomas and wife, Mary Louise, Winston-Salem, N.C.; six grandchildren, Nancy Louise Kennerdell Lawrence, Jeffrey John Kennerdell, Scott Thomas Ongemach, Susan LaRue Metts, Douglas Robert Holmes and Carolyn Louise Holmes; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She will be sadly missed by many loving friends.

Preceding her in death were one older sister, Regina Thomas Grotz; and one younger brother, James Thomas.

She was a lifelong resident of Elkins, where she graduated from Elkins High School and was an original member of the National Honor Society.

She was the manager for the Sears and Roebuck Store during the 1950s, and later served as the librarian for the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library.

She retired as a social worker for the West Virginia Department of Human Services in 1979.

She was a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church, Davis & Elkins College Aid, Elkins Women’s Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elkins Lodge No. 1135 BPOE. She was a faithful volunteer for the Davis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for more than 35 years and for Meals on Wheels.

The family will receive friends at the Saint Brendan Catholic Church on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., after which time a memorial service will be held.

The Rev. Father Giles LeVasseur will be the presider and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to Hospice Care Corp., 629 North Ave., Elkins, W.Va. 26241.
