George Franklin Foster, 76, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life Thursday evening, March 27, 2003, at the Tucker Community Care in Parsons. He had been in his usual health and death was attributed to a massive stroke.

He was born April 10, 1926, at Elk, a son of the late Early Foster and Texie Carr Foster.

On June 21, 1947, at Oakland, Md., he married the former Violet Mae Bright, who preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 2002.

He is survived by two sons, Larry Eugene Foster of Hendricks, and Rodney Ray Foster of Elkins; three brothers, Earl Foster and Bill Foster, both of Oakland, Md., and Marvin Foster of Delaware; one sister, Janet Wilt of Oakland, Md.; and two grandchildren, Mandi Foster, a student at Fairmont State College, and Michael Foster of Elkins.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by one brother, John Foster, and one granddaughter, Tina Marie Foster.

He attended the one-room school at Elk and was a member of the Parsons Church of God. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. He was a farmer and worked as a trackman for Western Maryland Railroad for 32 years.

A graveside service will be conducted at the Parsons City Cemetery on Sunday at 1 p.m. Pastor Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for George Franklin Foster.
