Hobart Foster Jr. 1934-2003 Obituary
Hobart Foster Jr., 68, of Route 2, Belington, died Thursday morning, Aug. 7, 2003, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins following a brief illness.
He is survived by Lady Ann Byrne Poster, his wife of 42 years. The couple was married in Philippi on Sept. 11, 1960.
Also surviving is a son, Jerry L. Foster and wife, Coty B. Foster, of Route 2, Shinnston (Boothsville), and one aunt, Apollene and husband, Lester Richardson, of Bracey, Va..
“Junior” Foster was born in Belington on Sept. 30, 1934, the only child of the late Hobart and Monta Corrick Foster.
He graduated from Belington High School and attended Fairmont State College for two years.
He held a valid apprentice embalmer and funeral director license.
Foster was a retired insurance salesman with Peoples Security Insurance Co. in Elkins.
He also has served as an assistant manager for the company and had received national top quality sales awards and was a top salesman for Peoples Security Life in 1968.
He was formerly advertising manager for Barbour Publishing Co.
He also worked for a brief time for Bruce Mining and was a weather observer in Belington for the National Weather Service.
Foster was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Belington of which he was a former trustee.
He was a member of the Belington Lodge 125 AF & AM, Eastern Star Chapter 68 and Tygarts Valley Life Insurance Association.
He was a member of the Belington Volunteer Fire Department for more than 38 years, retiring as an assistant fire chief.
Foster served in the U.S. Air Force and was crew chief on a C-124 cargo plane in Hawaii. He was a member of Elkins Post 29 American Legion.
In 1991, Foster was a liver transplant recipient, having the surgery at the University of Virginia Health Science Center Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home in Philippi after 4 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. until noon Sunday, at which time Mr. Foster will be moved to the Asbury United Methodist Church at Belington where friends will be received from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the service hour.
The Rev. Arden Beck will officiate. Interment will follow in the Belington Fraternal Cemetery.
