Freda K. Dumire 1914-2003 Obituary
Freda Kisner Dumire, 88, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Sunday morning, June 29, 2003, at her home. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.
She was born Sept. 4, 1914, at Holly Meadows, a daughter of the late Page “Cross” Kisner and Luella N. Jones Kisner.
She was twice married, first in 1937 to Lawton Jones, who preceded her in death in 1953. She was married in 1959 to Russell “Red” Dumire, who preceded her in death in August 1984.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Frances Jones Evick and Elizabeth Jones Ashton, both of Martins Ferry; five brothers, Glenn Kisner and wife, Norma, of Little Hocking, Ohio, Harry R. Kisner and wife, Mary, of Terra Alta, Doyle Kisner of Holly Meadows, James Kisner and wife, Shelby, of Sunset Heights, and Richard Kisner of Holly Meadows; two sisters, Dorothy Lee Kisner of Holly Meadows and Julia Ellasue Cochran and husband, Vernon, of Fairfax, Va.; eight stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are one infant son; one stepson, Robert W. Jones; one stepdaughter, Delores Jones McFadden; three sisters, Shirley Gray, Auzine Kisner and Evelyn Kisner; and three stepgrandchildren.
She attended the one-room school at Holly Meadows and was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1932.
She was a former employee of the Parsons Nursery. She was a housekeeper for the Herman Lamber family and an employee of the former Dorman Mills Wollen Mill at Parsons.
She was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church at Parsons, of which she was director for the Bible school program for many years.
She worked with the children’s church presenting Bible stories each week. She taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the choir.
She served as church treasurer for many and was a noted cook.
The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Thursday at 2 p.m.
The Rev. John Morrison will officiate and interment will follow at Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Hospice Care Corp., PO Box 193, Parsons, W.Va. 26287.
