Norma C. Elliott -2003 Obituary
Norma Connolly Elliott, 69, of Charleston, passed away at CAMC Memorial after a short illness of cancer, surrounded by her son and loved ones, on Thursday, June 5, 2003. She was formerly of Bluefield and a native of Greensboro, N.C.
She was a graduate of Beaver High School in Bluefield. She attended West Virginia University and College of Graduate Studies. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She had 22 years of service as chief clerk with the Attorney General’s office for the state of West Virginia. She was the former society editor for Sunset News in Bluefield.
She was named the Outstanding Young Woman of America in 1965, was a member and past president of Bluefield Junior Woman’s Club 1962-1966, was the State Junior Conservation Department chairperson from 1965-1966, was United Way section chairman of door-to-door solicitations in Bluefield in 1964-1965, was state parliamentarian of Izaak Walton League of America, West Virginia Division, from 1970-1979, was a charter member from 1973 to present, was past president and held other offices.
She also was a member of the Capitol Woman’s Club and the West Virginia Federation of Women’s Clubs, was the state continuing education chairman from 1996-1998, was the state Women in the Arts chairman from 1998-2000, was keeper of records from 2000-2002, Capitol District, was the State Convention chairman in 1986, was the State Beautification chairman, Conservation Department from 1988-1990 and was in the state leadership development division from 1992-1994.
She was a charter member and past president of GFWC Centennial Junior Alumnae Club, was a member of GFWC Woman’s Club of Charleston, was a charter member of GFWC of Possum Creek Improvement Society — State of West Virginia, was a member of GSWC Capitol District on Bylaws Committee, was a Bridge Club charter member and member of the GSWC Capitol Bridge Club and was a member of third Wednesday Woman’s Club Bridge Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude G. and Alma V. Connolly of Bluefield; her husband, William B. Elliott, of Charleston and Green Bank; and one daughter, Darrance Woodrum Brookshire of Charleston.
She is survived by her son, Robert Connolly Woodrum of Charlotte, N.C.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home with Raui Isiah, chaplain of CAMC, officiating. Visitation was Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home and two hours prior to the service today. Entombment will take place at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
