Robert J. Elza 1956-2003 Obituary
Robert Joe “Bobby Joe” Elza, 46, a former resident of Cherokee County, Ga., then of 1424 Cedar Crest Drive, Huntington, and more recently of Whitmer where he made his home with his cousin, Randy Elza for the past month, departed this life early Friday morning, April 11, 2003, at his home after an eight-month battle with cancer.
He was born Friday, Dec. 28, 1956, at Elkins, a son of the late Bobby Elwood Elza and Anna Ruth Hamilton Elza Hanks, who survives at Huntington.
On Sept. 25, 1987, at Woodstock, Canada, he was married to the former Freda Jean Cabe, who survives at Whitmer.
Also surviving are one son, Robert Joe “Robbie” Elza II, Huntington; one sister, Vickie Lee Elza Collins, and husband, Jack, Huntington; one granddaughter, Alyssa Michelle Elza, Tampa, Fla.; four aunts, Betty Vance and husband, Guy, Patricia Armentrout and husband, Ronnie, Wilma VanDevender and husband, Oral, and Linda Dundley and husband, Jim, all of Whitmer; one uncle, Dale Elza and wife, Mary, Whitmer; one nephew, Jason Burdette, Huntington; one niece and four nephews in Georgia and three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law in Georgia.
Preceding him in death besides his father were his maternal grandparents, Blaine and Jane Hamilton; his paternal grandparents, Joseph Howard and Bertha Mae Lamb Elza; and six aunts, Mrs. Neil “Betty” Roy, Mrs. Clare “Irene” Shannon, Eva Simmons, Mrs. Eustace “Peggy” Mills, Mrs. Ivan “Juanita” Hodges and Mrs. Red “Dorothy” Adkins; and one uncle, Blane Hamilton.
He attended the schools of Cabell County and was an avid sports fan. He had worked as a cab driver and dispatcher in Georgia and later as a packing clerk for the Materials for Packing Co. at Georgia.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer.
