Betty A. Eskew 1932-2003 Obituary
Betty Ann Long Eskew, 71, a resident of Route 4, Elkins, departed this life Sunday morning, June 15, 2003, at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center. She had been in declining health.
She was born Sunday, June 5, 1932, at Hillsboro, a daughter of the late Price Long and Gertrude Heffner Long.
On Oct. 12, 1956, at Elkins, she was married to Virgil Loraine Eskew, who survives. They had celebrated 46 years of marriage.
Also surviving are three daughters, Cheryl Ann Turnes and husband, Garry, of Dunbar, Judith Eskew Oliver and husband, Robert, of Washington, D.C., and Norma Eskew Dove of Montgomery, Ala.; one brother, Edward Long and wife, Doris, of Valley Head; one sister, Jean Lee Long of Dailey; and two grandchildren, Ashley Ann Dove and Portia Camille Oliver.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Patterson Long.
She was a graduate of Beverly High School with the class of 1950, and had been a member of the Glee Club. Prior to her marriage she had served as youth director of the Valley Bend Presbyterian Church. She worked for the W.T. Grant Co. for six years, Parkview Motel for two years, Nella’s Nursing Home for three years and was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church where she had served as a former Vacation Bible School director, children’s coordinator for the Sunday School department and as a Sunday School teacher.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Daniel Bryan will officiate and interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Gilman.
