Kent T. Evans Jr. 1914-2003 Obituary
Kent Taylor Evans Jr., 88, of Route 2, Belington, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, in Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 29, 1914, at Elkins, a son of the late Kent Taylor Sr. and Della D. (Lantz) Evans.
On May 15, 1939, he married the former Elizabeth Amanda Corley, who preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 1989.
Surviving are three sons, Tom and wife, Marcella Evans, New Comerstown, Ohio, Bob and wife, Teresa Evans, Belington, and Bruce Allen Evans, Akron, Ohio; five daughters, Jane Weese, Effie and husband, Joe Chapman, all of Philippi, Mary Ann Lake and Fred, Hillsboro, Ohio, Judy and husband, Kenny Marsh, Janet and husband, Eugene Auvil, all of Belington; one brother, Enoch John Evans, Clarksburg; 27 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Lela Hart, Jane Bolton, Grace White and Mary Martha Roberts; three brothers, Herman K. Evans and two infant brothers; one granddaughter and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Evans was a farmer and retired construction carpenter. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 476. He was a member of Belington Lodge 125 AF & AM, Belington Chapter 68, OES and attended the Corley United Methodist Church.
Friends may call at Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Arden Beck officiating. Interment will follow in Barbour Memorial Cemetery with Masonic Graveside rites by Belington Lodge 125, AF & AM. Belington Chapter 68, OES will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. The family requests memorials in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Region XI, 300 Scott Ave., Morgantown, W.Va. 26508. Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
