Clarence Fansler Sr., 87, of Wiley Ford died on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at the WMHS Memorial Campus Hospital.

Born April 2, 1916, at Elkins, he was the son of the late Ernest Fansler and Icie (Isner) Fansler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Millie Fansler, April 17, 1984; a son, Walter Fansler; three daughters, Bertha Fansler, Betty Fansler and Mary Lee Wolfe; two brothers, Boyd Fansler and Gilbert Fansler; and four sisters, Cleo Johnson, Marie Evans, Stella Sheets and Jessie Hornick.

Retired from the Western Maryland Railroad, Mr. Fansler was a member of the Wiley Ford Assembly of God Church and the United Transportation Workers.

He is survived by his second wife, Florice Fansler; four sons, Clarence Fansler Jr. and wife, Linda, of Cumberland, Md., R. Donald Fansler and wife, Nancy, of Cresaptown, Md., Ronald Fansler and wife, Elaine, of Berlin, Md., and N. Danny Fansler and wife, Kim, of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Willa Jean Cool of Vero Beach, Fla.; five sisters, Beatrice D’Angelo of North Carolina, Irene Snyder of Glen Burnie, Md., Catherine Connor of Florida, Elsie Hornick of Elkins; and Pearl Leasure of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., (formerly Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A.), 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, Md., (www.Merritt-Adamsfuneralhome.com) on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Monday from noon until 1 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Assembly of God Church at Glenmore in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at the Good Shepherd Assembly of God Church on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Rodney Casteel officiating. Interment will be held at Chenoweth Cemetery in Elkins.
