Alice Flanagan 1934-2003 Obituary
Alice Christena Wilt Phillips Flanagan, 69, a resident of the Stringtown community in Belington, departed this life at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, in the Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for quite sometime.
She was born May 24, 1934, at Owins, the daughter of the late Harry and Flossie Mae Powers Wilt.
She was twice married, first in December 1953 to Edgar N. Phillips, who preceded her in death in 1976, and second on June 4, 1982, to Herbert “Bud” Flanagan, who survives at their home in Belington.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Larry A. Phillips and wife, Donna, Kenneth R. Phillips and wife, Marie, Michael J. Phillips, and Thomas H. Phillips and wife, Kim, and two daughters, Anita K. Phillips and Rebecca M. Flanagan, all of Belington.
Also surviving are three sisters, Betty Fortney and husband, Larry, and Susie Stalnaker and husband, Dave, all of Elkins, and Mary Ketchem, Belington; one brother, Harry R. Wilt and wife, Geraldine, of South Carolina; one foster sister, Frances Coberly of Montrose; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Flanagan attended the schools of Barbour County, was a former employee of Family Health Services and was employed in the past years for various families in the Belington community.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the Stringtown United Methodist Church where she had served many years as treasurer.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and on Wednesday until 2 p.m., when funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Arden Beck officiating. Interment will follow in the Stringtown Cemetery at Belington.
