Fern Martin Graves 1920-2003 Obituary
Fern H. Martin Graves, 82, a patient in Nella’s Inc., passed away at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, in the nursing home.
She was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Parsons, the daughter of the late Homer D. and Amaretta Clark Martin.
She was formerly married to Col. John Graves.
Surviving are five brothers, Roscoe R. Martin of Gainesville, Fla., Ersel E. Martin of Southern Pines, N.C., Carroll C. Martin of Elkins, and Robert G. Martin and Donald P. Martin, both of Alexandria, Va.
One sister, Opal Martin, and a brother, Dr. Homer D. Martin, preceded her in death.
Ms. Graves was baptized at the age of 16 at the Montrose Methodist Church.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1937 and graduated from Clarksburg Business College.
Following her marriage, the Graves lived in New Orleans, La., where she worked for the International House devoted to improving trade between the United States and Latin American countries.
Then they moved to Guam for two years and later to California where Ms. Graves served as office manager of a law firm.
Upon retirement, she moved to Raleigh, N.C., where she remained until moving to Elkins, first living at Colonial Place and later at Nella’s Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Donald L. Lockhart will officiate and interment will follow. The Tomblyn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Fern H. Martin Graves
