Loyal Hanlin 1917-2003 Obituary
Loyal Hanlin, 86, a resident of 300 Pike St., Elkins, passed away Monday, March 17, 2003, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 20, 1917, in Pocahontas County, a son of the late C.V. and Birtie Craig Hanlin.
On Oct. 14, 1946, at Staunton, Va., he was married to Janet Crickard Hanlin, who preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 2001.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Eloise Crickard Caroland, Georgetown, Ky.; brothers-in-law, Donald Sirk of Clarksburg, and Richard Crickard of Tempe, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hanlin was a graduate of Elkins High School in 1934, where he played football and was captain of the track team. He worked for Western Maryland Railroad for two years and served in the Army Air Force from 1943 until 1946 in the Pacific Theatre. For the next 45 years, he worked in plumbing and heating in the Elkins area. The Hanlin’s were active in western square dancing for 25 years. He was a member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jonas Johnson Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens Cemetery, where members of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars will accord full military rites. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Loyal Hanlin.
