Carl R. Harper 1923-2003 Obituary
Carl Reginald Harper, 80, a resident of the Westover community, Morgantown, departed this life Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown.
He was born Monday, Nov. 26, 1923, at Parsons, the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Harper and Effie May Varner Harper.
On May 4, 1946, he was married to the former Laura Isabelle Wilson, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are five sons, Carl E. “Eugene” Harper, Charles A. Harper, Richard G. Harper and James F. Harper, all of Morgantown, and George Steven Harper of Masontown; three sisters, Sheila A. Myers of Morgantown, Caron I. Gladfelter of Alderson and Mary L. Trompak of Bruceton Mills; six brothers, Paul “Sweetie” Harper of Parsons, Harry Harper, Alfred Harper and John Harper, all of Ravenna, Ohio, Billie Harper of Orlando, Fla., and Junior Harper of Hendricks; two sisters, Anna Phillips and Arbeautus “Beauty” Myers, both of Parsons; and 11 grandchildren, Michelle Jeffery, Richard McClung, Tina Cordwell, Patrick Shannon, Robbie Harper, Dina Harper, Laura Adams, Jennifer Richards, Kristie Harper, Stephanie Harper and Robert “Bobbie” Harper.
He served during World War II with the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer. He was a supervisor for Dutch Oven Bakery and a mechanic for Wilson Chevrolet. He was a Methodist by faith.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Pastor Robert “Bob” Waters will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
