Anna Harris 1925-2003 Obituary
Anna Catherine Stanton “Katie” Harris, 78, a former resident of Youngstown, Ohio, and Norton, and more recently a resident of Beverly, departed this life Saturday evening, Oct. 18, 2003, at her home. She had been in declining health.
She was born Tuesday, May 19, 1925, at Ellamore, the daughter of the late Peter William “P. W.” Stanton and Mary Jane Burke Stanton.
Along with her husband, William E. “Speed” Harris, whom she married Jan. 20, 1940, at Coalton, they moved to Youngstown, Ohio, where they raised their family.
In 1980, they moved back to West Virginia. Her husband preceded her in death in 1985.
Katie was a homemaker, was of the Catholic faith and was an avid church-goer.
She was a very devoted and loving mother who enjoyed spending all of her time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren
She leaves behind to cherish her memory three sons, Paul “Tom” Harris and wife Janet, John J. Harris and William D. Harris, all of Youngstown, Ohio; four daughters, Mary Catherine McCarthy of Austintown, Ohio, Christine Lynn Vanpelt of Beverly, Cynthia Shreve of Elkins and Karen Kerns and her fiancÈe, Doug Burns, with whom Mrs. Harris made her home at Beverly; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sarah E. Hodges of Elkins; and three very special people, Becky Harris, Cathy Harris and Sue Seaman.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were four brothers, Phillip, Edwin, Lawrence and Michael; three sisters, Agnes, Gertrude and Genievee; two children, Barbara and Cheryl; and two grandchildren, Johnny Harris and Jimmy Lawrence.
God gave us a treasure of immense and untold worth and brought a touch of heaven to our lives here on earth. For he sent us someone wonderful, an angel from above, when he blessed us with the gift of you, our mother, our joy, our love.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. At 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, a prayer service will be recited by the Rev. Fr. Giles LeVasseur. On Wednesday, Mrs. Harris will be moved to the Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church at Coalton, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Giles LeVasseur will be the presider and interment will follow at the Saint Vincent Cemetery at Kingsville.
