Charles Hart 1910-2003 Obituary
Charles “Tick” Hart, 92, of Maryland, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003.
He was born in Mabie, the second of three sons of Sarah Florence Suiter and Howard Hart of Beverly. Part of his youth was spent in the now historic “Hart House” on Rich Mountain. He later moved with his family to Beverly where they lived in his mother’s family home, the “Henry Suiter House,” for many years.
He was a graduated of Beverly High School in 1930. The following year he was married to the former Helen V. Hodges, the daughter of Brent B. and Lula Barb Hodges, also of Beverly.
He was descended from a long line of early settlers in Beverly and always considered this his true home.
In 1939, he moved to the Baltimore area where he worked as a marine electrician for the Maryland Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. until his retirement in 1974. He continued to live at his home in Maryland until his death after a fairly short illness.
Mr. Hart was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 1977; his brother, A. Blair Hart in 1993; and a daughter, Suzanne, in 2002.
He is survived by one brother, Mason Hart of Beverly; a son, Joseph E. Hart; and three daughters, Nancy DiCianni, Linda Filkins and Robin Quillen, all of Maryland. There are 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren living in various parts of the United States and Europe.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Files Creek Road at 4-H Road. He will be buried in the Beverly Cemetery beside his wife and daughter.
All of his friends and family are invited to attend.
