Marsha Mitchell 1953-2003 Obituary
Marsha F. Poling Mitchell, EdD, MSN, RN, 50, of 101 Gladewood Lane, Hurricane, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Marsha was born Nov. 12, 1953, in Philippi, the daughter of the late Marshall L. Poling and Dorothy F. Poling, who survives at Meadowville.
Marsha was united in marriage on Aug. 16, 1975, to Robert L. Mitchell II, who survives in Hurricane.
Also surviving are two sons, Jayson B. Mitchell and Justin R. Mitchell, both of Hurricane; and one sister and brother-in-law, Jayme D. and husband, Rickey L. Phillips, of Meadowville, Belington.
Marsha was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Arnet and Maysell Simon; and her paternal grandparents, Jay and Gay Poling.
Marsha taught nursing for 27 years and served as assistant professor of nursing at the West Virginia University School of Nursing in Morgantown.
Marsha was a member of the American Nurses Association, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Southern Nursing Research Society, West Virginia Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau-Alpha Rho Chapter, and Phi Delta Kappa.
Marsha was a member of the Central Chapel United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 4 p.m. today and until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, at which time Marsha will be moved to Central Chapel United Methodist Church to lie in state from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour. The Rev. Dot Smith Stewart and the Rev. Dr. Daniel Unger will officiate and interment will follow in the Central Chapel Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home service.
