Darrell G. Hawkins 1926-2003 Obituary
Darrell G. Hawkins, 67, of Horner, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, in the Charleston Area Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 21, 1926, in Buckhannon, the son of the late Glenn Hawkins and Nina Glass Hawkins.
He was first married to Alice Smith Westfall. Children born include one daughter, Andrea and husband, Larry Drapela, who survive; and two sons, James and Darrell II, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by one sister, Charleen Baker of Covington, Va.; and four nephews, Wesley, Jeffrey, Glenn and Kevin.
Darrell had one stepbrother, Earl Hawkins, who preceded him in death and two stepsisters, Vera James and Gyda Moore of Walback, who survive.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Vivian McCue Hawkins, whom he married Nov. 28, 1981.
Also surviving are two stepchildren, Christina Booker and husband, Robert, of Charleston, and Delesa Haught and husband, Michael, of Weston.
Darrell is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Crystal, Emily and Macie Haught of Weston; Erica and Sam Booker and Tony Sotelo of Charleston; Darrell Gene III of New York; Seth Isiah Hawkins of Pennsylvania; and Kyle, Zachary and David Hawkins of Eric, Pa.
He was Marine veteran, former mayor of Jane Lew, a charter member of the Jane Lew Fire Department, a former member of the Buckhannon Fire Department and a member of the Beech Mountain Sportsman’s Club at Czar.
He was a member and church superintendent of Vandalia United Methodist Church and a member of the church choir.
He was a carpenter by trade and worked the last 10 years for the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources.
Darrell farmed and was an avid hunter. He coached and managed Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball in Lewis County for many years.
Darrell had many special church friends and several of his 1954 Buckhannon-Upshur graduating class that he loved being with.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Weston Masonic Cemetery. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
