Boy’s Life – 1944-03 – Pack Rack – W Ben Hunt
The need to build back pack rack has been bypassed by easy and relitively inexpensive aluminum pack frames
But I read of these articles I can find, its an interesting concept, making something instead of buying it from store
Which is better, store bought or homemade? There are a lot of factors in deciding this, including skill of the builder, wealth of the builder, and mindset of the builder
A builder has to decide he is either has the skill to make the rack, or the ability to learn the skill
A Builder has to decide if its really cheaper, does the builder have access to free or cheap wood that would be significantly cheaper than store bought wood or finished product
Them mindset of the builder is the most important factor, the skill and satisfaction gained from building your own equipment is very powerful motivator
These articles led to a monthly column in Boy’s Life – The Slide of the Month by Whittlin Jim Column
W Ben Hunt created the Whittlin Jim and Lone Eagle names, and published articles under all three name – Ben Hunt wrote 2-4 articles per month for Boy’s Life, and I think he created the Whittlin Jim and Lone Eagle to make is seem like there were multiple authors writing the articles
